Helping IT Secure Board Funding To Deliver An IT Change Programme

Wednesday 28th June, 2017

Client Challenge

The client, a global utility, required a review of its UK IT systems. Recently the client organisation had created a group wide IT function and subsequently outsourced infrastructure, thus creating a centralised IT model.

Since these changes the business underwent significant change, creating a specialised Retail unit within the UK, which was heavily dependent on IT for operational and customer support.

Furthermore, since the outsourcing, the business has faced numerous IT service delivery challenges in support of the UK Retail business.

Approach

Coeus conducted a UK IT Review that looked at the IT provided to the UK Retail Unit and assessed the current IT capabilities and competencies to meet the business needs.

This covered:

  • analysis of current IT application and infrastructure service delivery performance
  • analysis of current IT project performance
  • review of IT operating model and governance and how IT and the wider business work together to meet the needs of customers and colleagues.

Coeus documented UK business and IT context, including a summary of current challenges.

We assessed the capabilities and performance meeting current and future IT demands from the business (including identification of gaps, consequences of any IT operating model / outsourcing contract constraints).

We made practical recommendations and an action plan, which was presented to the UK board as a whitepaper.

Results

The board paper and subsequent presentation secured funding to deliver the IT Change Programme.

This was clearly articulated in terms of business context, IT challenges and their impacts with a robust set of recommendations and action plan that supported the need to set up the IT Change Programme.
